The Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 (RO Act) deals with the registration and governance aspects of registered organisations. This includes legislative requirements in relation to rules, financial reporting, keeping of records, filing of annual returns and conduct of elections.

The RO Act came into operation on 1 July 2009, and replaced Schedule 1 to the Workplace Relations Act 1996 (the RAO Schedule). It is in fact Schedules 1 and 10 of the Workplace Relations Act 1996 renamed and amended.
Most provisions remain as they were in the RAO Schedule, however some of the terminology has altered.
