Annual wage reviews
Reviewing and setting minimum wages has been a key function of Australia's national workplace relations tribunal since it was first established as a court in the early years of last century.
From 2006 to 2009 minimum wage-setting was undertaken by the Australian Fair Pay Commission (AFPC), with the Australian Industrial Relations Commission providing a supplementary role, setting allowances and minimum wages for non-national system employees dependent on federal awards.
Under the Fair Work Act 2009 Fair Work Australia is required to conduct and complete an annual wage review in each financial year.
