24. REST PERIODS, DAYS OFF AND DUTY FREE PERIODS
24.1 Rest period - permanent base
24.1.1 Following a tour of duty of 8 hours or less, a Flight Attendant’s rest period must be a minimum of 12 hours. In unplanned circumstances the Employer and Flight Attendant may by agreement reduce this rest period to no less than 10 hours.
24.1.2 Following any tour of duty of more than 8 hours or, in the case of a multi-day tour, where any one day’s duty during that tour exceeds 8 hours, the subsequent rest period at permanent base must be at least 15 hours. In unplanned circumstances the Employer and Flight Attendant may by agreement reduce this rest period to no less than 12 hours.
24.2 Rest period - away from permanent base
24.2.1 If a rest period occurs away from permanent base at a port where Flight Attendants are based, the rest period must be a minimum of 12 hours.
24.2.2 If a rest period occurs at a port where Flight Attendants are not based, the rest period must be at least 10 consecutive hours.
24.2.3 If a Flight Attendant receives less than 12 hours rest between shifts, the balance of the tour of duty will be limited to 6 hours unless:
24.3 Rest period and termination of duty

24.3.1 If a tour of duty terminates between the hours of 0100 and 0700 hours or encompasses 3 or more hours duty during those hours the subsequent rest period at permanent base must be a minimum of 15 hours.
24.3.2 A Flight Attendant must not sign on for a tour of duty twice in one calendar day at permanent base.
24.3.3 If a Flight Attendant signs off at permanent base after 0200 hours the Flight Attendant must not sign on for that calendar day.
24.3.4 Where a Flight Attendant signs-off after 2230 hours prior to a designated/substitute day off, the designated/substitute day off will become a day free of duty and a substitute day off will be given.
24.4 Unplanned overnights
In the case of unplanned overnights, a Flight Attendant must be assigned to depart the overnight port to their permanent base as soon as practicable afier having the required rest period applicable to that particular port.
24.5 Rescheduling of Flight Attendants away from home base
24.5.1 Despite the provisions of this award, a Flight Attendant away from home base who is scheduled to deadhead to their permanent base may be assigned to operate any one way flight back to home base.
24.5.2 Subject to clause 22 - Ordinary hours of work and clause 24 — Rest periods, days off and duty free periods, a Flight Attendant who is scheduled to deadhead to their permanent base may be assigned to operate that flight or another flight on that sector. Provided that initial sign-on for that tour of duty is not advanced by more than 30 minutes and the initial sign-off for that tour of duty is not extended by more than 30 minutes.
24.6 Days off
24.6.1 A Flight Attendant is entitled to 9 designated days off in each roster period and not more than two of these days may be taken as a single day.

24.6.2 A Flight Attendant holding a reserve duty roster is entitled to 10 designated days off in each roster period and not more than two of those days may be given as a single day.
24.7 Rest breaks
Designated Days Off and Substitute Days Off must be preceded by a minimum two hour duty free period. However, the total duty free period prior to and following a designated day off and substitute day off must be at least 10 hours.
24.8 Meal break penalty

If a Flight Attendant works a daily duty of 5 hours and 30 minutes or more; and works more than 5 hours and 10 minutes without a 20 minute meal break the Flight Attendant must be paid at the rate of an additional 50% of the base rate of pay, with a minimum payment for one hour, for all time worked beyond 5 hours and 10 minutes until commencement of the 20 minute meal break; or relief from duty.
