PART 6 - HOURS OF WORK, REST PERIODS AND DAYS OFF
22. ORDINARY HOURS OF WORK
22.1 Ordinary hours each roster period
22.1.1 Ordinary hours of work are paid to 140 hours, and may be worked up to a maximum of 140 hours in any roster period. Exceptions to the 140 hours maximum are hours (or part thereof) worked in the following circumstances:
22.1.1(a) additional hours resulting from a voluntary swap of rostered duties under
26.5;
22.1.1(b) as a result of duties as a ground school trainer;
22.1.1(c) from the voluntary performance of work on an incentive pay day in accordance with 23.3.
A Flight Attendants hours may be extended beyond 120 hours and up to 140 hours in the case of creep, delays, disruptions, drafting, re-assignment and other relevant provisions of this award.
22.1.2 A full-time Flight Attendant may be rostered to a maximum of 120 hours in a roster period. An exception to this is where a full-time Flight Attendant is rostered to perform ground duties as a ground school trainer, in which case the Flight Attendant is to be rostered to no more than 140 duty hours in each roster period.
22.2 Hours per duty
22.2.1 A Flight Attendant must not be rostered, awarded, assigned or drafted to exceed a planned 9 hours in any duty, non-airport reserve credits are not included in the 9 hour limit. An exception to this is when:
22.2.1(a) The rostered, awarded, assigned or drafted duty is delayed in which case a Flight Attendant may be required to work up to 12 hours; and
22.2.1(b) travel is associated with emergency procedure practices, examinations and courses; or uniform fittings; and that duty is the only duty for the day, in which case a Flight Attendant may work up to 12 hours. A Flight Attendant must not work for more than 12 hours in any duty and this limit includes non-airport reserve duty credits.
22.3 Trainees attending initial training school are not subject to the duty hour limitations specified in this award, until the trainee commences inflight training or on line duties.
22.4 Maximum consecutive days
A Flight Attendant may perform duty (and be rostered) for a maximum of 6 consecutive days. This period may be extended in unforeseen circumstances and on an unplanned basis by agreement between the Flight Attendant and the Employer to a maximum of 8 days.
22.5 Reserve Duties
22.5.1 A Flight Attendant may be rostered, awarded or assigned airport reserve or non airport reserve duty.
22.5.2 A Flight Attendant may be rostered a span of 15 hours of non airport reserve. On the day prior to the rostered non airport reserve day the Employer should specify a non airport reserve period of not more than 12 hours. If the Flight Attendant is not notified on the day prior the 12 hour period commences from the beginning of the rostered period.
22.5.3 One third of the time spent on non airport reserve duty up to the sign on of the assigned duty will be credited as duty. The credited duty:
22.5.3(a) does not accrue toward the roster limit of 9 hours of subsequent duty; and
22.5.3(b) does count for the purpose of the 12 hour limitation, overtime, pay and if applicable subsequent rest periods.
22.5.4 All time spent on airport reserve duty will be credited as duty.
22.5.5 A Flight Attendant on non-airport reserve duty without a telephone contact must:
22.5.6 A Flight Attendant on non-airport reserve who is called out for duty must be prepared to sign on at the airport as early as possible and not later than 120 minutes after receiving the duty call out.
22.5.7 Flight Attendants on reserve must not normally be contacted by the Employer during the Flight Attendant’s rest periods (between the hours of 2200 - 0600). An exception to this is to meet a short notice operational requirement (i.e. where the Employer requires to assign flying duty to a Flight Attendant that entails a sign-on before 0800, and the Employer becomes aware of the requirement between 2100 and 0600.
22.5.8 Subject to 23.2, a Flight Attendant on home reserve is not required to sign on before the commencement of the rostered or nominated reserve period.
22.5.9 A Flight Attendant is not required to sign-on for a tour of duty outside of their nominated reserve period unless drafted.
22.6 Unplanned overnights
In the case of an unplanned overnight, a Flight Attendant must be assigned to depart the overnight port to their permanent base, but not through their permanent base, as soon as possible after having the required rest period applicable to that port, unless the Employer and the Flight Attendant agree to waive the minimum rest period required in accordance with clause 24 — Rest periods, days off and duty free periods.
