18. RATES OF PAY
18.1 Rates of pay
Flight attendants performing work within the classifications listed in the table in this clause, will be paid the following weekly rates:
18.1.1 A flight attendant employed prior to the operative date of this award will be paid the following minimum weekly rate and the residual amount for the relevant year of service, where applicable.

18.1.2 A flight attendant employed after the operative date of this award will be paid the following minimum weekly rate for the respective classification.

18.2 Arbitrated safety net adjustments

18.2.1 The rates of pay in this award include the arbitrated safety net adjustment payable under the Safety Net Review - Wages June 2005 decision [PR002005]. This arbitrated safety net adjustment may be offset against any equivalent amount in rates of pay received by employees whose wages and conditions of employment are regulated by this award which are above the wage rates prescribed in the award. Such above-award payments include wages payable pursuant to certified agreements, currently operating enterprise flexibility agreements, Australian workplace agreements, award variations to give effect to enterprise agreements andoveraward payments. Absorption which is contrary to the terms of an agreement is not required.
Increases made under previous National Wage Case principles or under the current Statement of Principles, excepting those resulting from enterprise agreements, are not to be used to offset arbitrated safety net adjustments.
18.3 Bands payments
18.3.1 In addition to the salaries above flight attendants must be paid the following amounts per hour (bands pay) depending on the time and day of their duty. The amount is calculated by multiplying the dollar value for a point by the number of points.

18.3.2 Dollar value per point
Points will be allocated to bands for duty to achieve a special payment scheme for unsociable hours, weekend days and company approved public holidays. Clause 18.3 does not apply to Ansett Flight Attendants/Cabin Managers.
18.3.3 A flight attendant performing non flying duties is to be paid a loading in lieu of shift penalty at the rate of 10% of the weekly salary of the flight attendant whilst on duty and when the flight attendant is not paid bands payments as outlined in 18.3.1.
18.4 Clause 18.3 does not apply to Ansett Australia. In addition to the salaries above Flight Attendants/Cabin Managers must be paid a loading in lieu of shift penalty at the rate of 10% of the weekly salary prescribed above. This subclause does not apply to Qantas Airways Limited.
